IPL Teams


DLF Indian Premier League (IPL) Cricket was started by BCCI in the year 2008, with complete backing from the ICC. The Twenty20 league has a total of eight teams, with players being purchased at the auctions by the team owners. The names of IPL Twenty20 Teams are Bangalore Royal Challengers, Kings XI Punjab, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Deccan Chargers, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals.

Bangalore Royal Challengers
With India's 'icon player' Rahul Dravid as its captain and India's Venkatesh Prasad as the coach, Bangalore Royal Challengers was brought by Vijay Mallya's UB Group. The team cost Mallya $111.6 million.

Kings XI Punjab
Kings XI Punjab, the team of Mohali, went for $76 million, to Bollywood actress Preity Zinta and her industrialist beau Ness Wadia. Along with them, industrialists Karan Paul and Mohit Burman are its owners. India's 'icon player' Yuvraj Singh is the team's captain and Australia's Tom Moddy its coach.

Chennai Super Kings
Bought by India Cements (N Srinivasan), for $91 million, Chennai Super Kings has Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the captain of Team India ODI and T20, as its captain and Kepler Wessels, ex-captain of South Africa cricket team, as the coach.

Kolkata Knight Riders
Kolkata Knight Riders, owned by Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, actress Juhi Chawla and Juhi's husband Jay Mehta, was auctioned off for $75.09 million. It has India's 'icon player' Sourav Ganguly as the captain and Australia's John Buchanan as the coach.

Deccan Chargers
Deccan Chargers, the team of Hyderabad, was auctioned off for $107, to Deccan Chronicle (a media house). VVS Laxman, Team India's Test player, is its captain, with Robin Singh as the coach.

Mumbai Indians
Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries Limited owns Mumbai Indians, which was auctioned off for $111.9 million. India's 'icon player' Sachin Tendulkar is its captain, while Lalchand Rajput is the team's coach.

Delhi Daredevils
Delhi Daredevils, the team of the capital city - Delhi, was auctioned off for $84 million, to GMR Holdings. India's 'icon player' Virender Sehwag and Australia's Greg Shipperd are the captain and coach of the team, respectively.

Rajasthan Royals
Emerging Media, a UK-based company, bought Rajasthan Royals (the Jaipur team) for $67 million, with Shane Warne (ex-spin bowler of Australia) as both its captain and coach.
